Privacy and your profile

Orivian is built so you can study in public without being public. Other learners only ever see an alias you choose, and you decide whether even that shows up. Here's exactly who sees what.

Who sees what

Certificates are the one exception you choose to share: anyone with a certificate's ID can see the name printed on it, the course and the date. See Certificates.

Your alias

  • Everyone gets an alias like SwiftFalcon482. You can change it any time on your profile under How others see you.
  • Untick Show my alias on leaderboards and live activity to leave them. You're still counted, anonymously, as a dot on the study map, but never named.

Friends

  • Friendships are mutual: one of you sends a request, the other accepts.
  • People can find you only by your exact alias (and only if you show publicly), or through your personal invite link. Your real name and email are never searchable.
  • Friends see your alias, avatar, level, streak, XP, which courses you're taking and how far along you are, and your recent milestones. They never see your notes, answers or scores.
  • You can remove a friend at any time from the Friends page.

Location and activity

  • The live study map shows roughly where people are studying: US state, or country elsewhere, worked out from your connection. Nothing more precise is ever stored.
  • Page visits are counted without storing IP addresses, using an anonymous ID that changes every day, so a visitor can't be followed from one day to the next.
  • Your study time is measured only while a lesson or exam is open in front of you, to show you your own stats.

Always private

  • Your notes are visible only to you, on every device you sign in on.
  • Your answers, scores, study profile and learning decay are yours alone.
  • Problem reports you send include the slide or question you were on, so the Orivian team can fix it.
